Anna Unfortunate Lip Gloss
Posted 26 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: Anna Sui
The promotion area at Isetan Scotts (up till next Thurs 1 Feb 2007):
It’s not Anna’s fault that she was born with an unlucky surname. But to christen an entire lip gloss collection after misfortunate is just asking for it. But for the beauty junkie like me, the new 2007 spring collection and colours are beckoning to be on my dresser. If there’s one thing Anna does well, it’s definitely packaging!
Estee Lauder’s New Nutritious
Posted 25 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: Estee Lauder
This is the American cosmetics giant’s answer to the upcoming Chinese New Year. New Nutritious! It’s supposed to be meant for Asian women (we’ve heard that one before) and it’s based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
It’s not surprising to constantly have new offerings coming from this brand, but what is intriguing is the company’s move to target an Asian customer – and a younger one at that. I love the bottles. They are very cheena and it’s good to embrace my yellow roots. It’s tempting to try something from this range. It’s price point isn’t too bad at $39 to $82. And for Estee Lauder, that’s affordable. Perhaps I’ll go out tomorrow and buy the item that’s $39.
Better yet, they’ve been advertising to give away free samples. I’ll go for that first. I’m only human. And Singaporean.
Narciso Brush
Posted 25 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: Narciso Rodriguez
My current favourite fragrance… in a brush!
“For Her Powder Brush delightfully releases a pale pink mother of pearl powder that is gently scented with the notes of For Her fragrance. A sensual and feminine way of wearing the For Her fragrance, this is the ultimate expression of glamour and elegance.”
I’m imagining how impractical this brush would eventually be. It’d sit on my dresser top, look pretty, be hardly used, and it’ll waste my time keeping me guessing whether it’s for the face or body. I need to get me one of these!
Shu Uemura paradox

“Perfect beauty exists in imperfection. PARADOX, where everything seems to be incompatible, you will find that every paradox results in beauty”
by Mr. Shu Uemura
either very deep or utter rubbish. Nothing in this collection really screams out for me to buy it. It’s just another colour collection from the man. Pretty colours no doubt. Where are the palettes and limited edition goodies!! But love! love! love! the model images – very androgynous. Great photoshop on the skin texture.
M.A.C Cool Couture
Posted 24 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: M.A.C
I just bought this today and am super loving it even before I get to try it tomorrow morning.
The new M.A.C Couture pressed powder compact – not cheap at $86, but comes with an extra powder refill with sponge. That was a pleasant surprise. The compact itself feels very heavy (hence seemingly expensive), but beauty has it’s price and lugging this around to look chic every time I whip it out is the tag on mine. Seriously. I’ve seen this in the Jan magazines, but it’s nowhere as cool as holding it in your hand yourself and experiencing how well made the product is with it’s finished edges.
I was told the powder too is excellent. The beauty advisor tried 2 different textures on the back of my hand – the regular M.A.C pressed powder, and this one. This is much smoother. It glides on well and doesn’t feel rough at all like the texture that many pressed powders have.
My recommendation – run out to Tangs now and buy one before it’s taken off the shelf. It’s a limited edition and isn’t coming back. And because it’s refillable with the regular sized M.A.C powder, you can keep this one for life. $86? Cheeeeeeap!
And omg. There are eye shadows too!! I resisted and bought only the powder. If you feel rich, get the whole drool worthy collection.
Kose Eye Fantasist
Posted 22 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: Kose
Since this is my first product review on the blog, I’ll begin with a product I love and have been using since it’s launch in 2003.
But someone please tell me what kind of a name is Eye FANTASIST? Surprisingly, this stuff is really good. It’s a cream to powder eye shadow that glides on smoothly. It doesn’t dry too fast so it’s easily blendable, and it dries quick enough so you don’t wait forever to do the rest of your eye makeup. The nicer colours are the original gold, light pink and green. Don’t go for the new ones with too much glitter cos the colour payoff isn’t quite there. All you see is glitter. And you don’t want that (unless you do. hmmm…) Retails for $37 each.
DID YOU KNOW…?
Kose Singapore has it’s own website. But only the main promo page is kept updated (and with minimal info at that). Check it out at http://www.kose-sg.com
Chio bu!
Posted 22 January 2007 by iwanttobechioCategories: Uncategorized
Yes, sometimes I wonder what the hell it is I’m talking about. But I can get away with it because I’m a chio bu. Mind you, I wasn’t born pretty. It’s the multitude of beauty choices I have now in Singapore that has made me obsessed with achieving that perfect skin, perfect smile and perfect body. I’m fortunately not fat. And though I have flat features, contouring and shadows make up for the definition I lack. So you see, with make up, I am pretty. Without make up, I’d like to think I’m still cute.
I’ve been around in the local beauty industry long enough to know the bribery that goes on between publications and clients, and the marketing campaigns that drive you to buy a product now now now! So I’ve set up my own blog to talk about the real stuff out there that you should truly put your money behind. No one pays me so I can safely rattle on.
I hope to create 101 classroom articles on insider beauty tips and tricks. Basically “how to” sections with beauty myths debunked. It’s been done a million times over, but everyone loves reading the stuff. This junk is inspirational.
